The is another way to post an image. On any forum (assuming HTML enabled). Use HTML language.

Every pic on the net has properties and that included the location. The location can be included in your post. The location is found by hovering over the picture, right mouse down to properties and grab the lacation.

Try this simple experiment. Hover and right mouse over the smiley face below. Right click and under properties you should see this: http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/images/icons/icon7.gif

By it self pretty useless. But, you can see the PM has these little emotional icons stored right on site. So now anywhere else on anybodys web site I can display the emotional icon from here. You are not supposed to do this, but you can. It called stealing bandwidth. Letting the PM host your emotional icon. Or craiglist host your pics, or whom ever. No body cares, usually. But it can be abused so I mention that.

so then you do this {img}http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/images/icons/icon7.gif{/img}

but no bogus {} use the square brackets []

this is what you get:

Antique Lathe on Craigslist (3)

Forget the mouse clickity click import features. You are now an HTML programmer.

or you can do this:

Antique Lathe on Craigslist (4)

Antique Lathe on Craigslist (5)

Antique Lathe on Craigslist (6)

Antique Lathe on Craigslist (7)

Antique Lathe on Craigslist (8)

Antique Lathe on Craigslist (9)

enough fun.....

I'll give it a try since I'm among the "image challenged."

Antique Lathe on Craigslist (10)

We'll see.

Edit: Works! Pretty good trick for someone with the left brain in the 19th century.

This one has a tailstock without the two nuts on top. Hence Post 1876. Small bed section. Hence before 1880. May have lead screw on backside of bed. Again, prior to 1880. Shield type apron says Reed. Rise & fall toolpost - definitely pre "compound" which puts it before 1890. But no weight underneath nor sliders on the top of the apron.

On those pictures posted -
There may be a problem linking them to the image on the Craigslist site. When the listing is up and that image goes bye bye on Craigslist, so does the image here (I would imagine). Maybe a longer lasting way would be to attach the same image (using the location Peter showed how to get) to a post here. That way the image resides on the PM server (again I would imagine)...

Therein lies my problem with the WPI Drillpress post earlier. When I paste the Craigslist pix url into the "upload from a website" box, I get in reply "invalid URL" Curious that I can "paste" in a pix directly but I can't "upload."

I'd rather upload because it's very disappointing to look back at posts from a year or so ago and find only "Red Xs" where the pix used to be.

It is infact a F.E. Reed lathe maufacttured for Garvin. It does'nt say in the add but it also has (2) 11" chucks, faceplate and a full set (as near as I can tell) of change gears. I know this because it is my lathe. PM me if your interested.

Joe,

You can copy the pic from craiglist onto your c-drive. I believe that is called "send image as".

You probably been saving pics from this site and others, same thing. You dont have to store it for long. But from your c-drive you can use the browser under the manage attachments to download the photo. Once it here on the PM , you can cleanup your c-drive.

Speaking of pictures on the home computer ... I have so many pics, on my home computer c-drive I am thinking about buying an external hard drive to backup all the pics. They had some down at Cosco. Smaller than apack of cigarettes. No power supply. Power and data via USB cable. You can get 300 to 500 Gig for around 100 bucks. Thats 10 times bigger than my year 2000 antique computer.

Yeah, I guess that works. Mostly I get hung up in the "resizing" when I go this way.

And a bump for the seller.

PKuziel,

Now I remember when you got this lathe and we helped you figure out what it was.
http://www.practicalmachinist.comvb/showthread.php?p=910541#post910541
Does it by any chance have F.E. Reed cast into the legs?

These usually had a plate somewhere that listed threads and gearing. On the F.E. Reeds, it also had their name cast into it, but I think I've seen some that simply had the threads listed. Those were usually put on the front of the left leg behind where the switch is on yours. Have you seen such a plate? It's not the one that says Garvin.

Since I have a collection of both Garvin and F.E. Reed machines, this lathe is tempting because it combines both. I'll think about it and PM you. Thanks for chiming in!
