NAF fulfils promises to victims of Zamfara airstrike | (2025)

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced that it has honoured all commitments made to the victims and families impacted by the tragic air strike that occurred on January 11, 2025 in Dangebe Village, Maradun, Zamfara State.

This was contained in a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information of the NAF, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.

In the statement on Wednesday in Abuja, Ejodame noted that the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, had previously dispatched a delegation of senior officers to conduct a fact-finding mission, and later visited Zamfara State on March 6 to offer condolences.

He said during the visit, the CAS met with survivors, bereaved families, and members of the affected community, pledging both immediate and long-term support to ease their suffering.

“Among the promises made were the provision of financial support to the families of the deceased, reconstruction of the damaged buildings in the village, and replacement of the two destroyed motorcycles,” Ejodame said.

He added that another commitment was the construction of a borehole in nearby Kambarawa Village to provide potable water to surrounding communities.

He emphasised that the initiatives were part of the NAF’s broader civil-military engagement strategy aimed at fostering trust, healing, and cooperation with communities in conflict-affected areas.

The statement added: “It is heart-warming to announce that the Nigerian Air Force has honoured every one of its commitments.

“The reconstruction of the damaged building has been completed, and two brand-new motorcycles have been delivered to their rightful owners.

“Additionally, the promised borehole has been successfully drilled and is now providing clean, accessible water to Kambarawa Village and surrounding areas.”

Ejodame also mentioned that the full financial support promised to the victims and their families had been disbursed to aid their recovery and rebuild their lives.

He said that the families and community members affected by the tragedy expressed deep gratitude to the NAF for its sincerity, compassion, and the prompt fulfilment of promises.

Hee noted that both community leaders and residents had lauded the NAF for not only acknowledging the tragic incident but for taking concrete steps toward healing and hope.

“These actions reflect the NAF’s values of professionalism, responsibility, and respect for human dignity,” he said.

Ejodame further emphasised the NAF’s continued commitment to upholding transparency and accountability in all its operations.

The Service also reaffirmed its dedication to minimising civilian harm, respecting human rights, and promoting lasting civil-military relations as a strategic and moral imperative.

He added: “For the NAF, protecting the lives and property of Nigerians is not just a constitutional duty; it is a sacred trust.

“The Service will continue to strengthen its engagements with communities, adhere strictly to the rules of engagement, and maintain the highest standards of professionalism across all its operations.”
